TALO, the specialist in highly sustainable offsite housing solutions, has announced its latest project which is located in Bromley near London.
The Green Quarter for developer Pack Developments will use TALO's advanced timber offsite superstructure system, manufactured in Finland, to deliver homes to higher quality standards and to exceed Passivhaus energy standards for much lower running costs.
TALO will build the structures for two detached four-bedroom family homes in just two weeks to a design by architects KHD Architecture.
The timber superstructure for each house in the Green Quarter development will be craned into position as a series of panels in just five days ready for external finishing and internal fitout.
David Watkins, Director of Pack Developments, said, “The main drivers for using the TALO offsite superstructure system for this project are lower energy bills and improved quality. We are delivering two new family homes to an exceptional standard with low or zero running costs that are unparalleled in the area. TALO will also help us to achieve a significant reduction on the overall construction programme to allow earlier occupation.”
“We visited the TALO factory in Finland as it was important for us to understand what is behind the company. Seeing the efficiency of factory production at first hand and from start to finish, gave us excellent insight into the level of detailing and robust processes required to make outstanding thermally efficient homes.”
“We are committed to delivering net zero homes and are really keen to champion this approach through our collaboration. The need for more sustainable homes to reduce the impact of housebuilding and heating homes on the environment is clear.”
Bengt Magnussen, Commercial Director of TALO, said, "It is great to be working on our first project for Pack Developments. We are setting a new standard for residential construction in the UK, working with visionary developers such as Pack.”
“Our offsite timber superstructure solutions deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes in less time and with absolutely no compromise on the architectural design – to the benefit of developers and homeowners."
Each home in the Green Quarter will benefit from energy-efficient triple-glazed timber windows which are being pre-installed in the factory for a higher quality finish.
A state-of-the-art mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) system combined with solar-powered electricity, hot water and underfloor heating mean the homeowners will benefit from zero energy bills and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
TALO’s Finnish housebuilding technology uses completely dry timber processes – from forest to sawmill, factory and site installation. As a result, these timber superstructures are completely watertight and airtight to eliminate snagging and movement to reduce heat loss to the benefit of homeowners.
The speed of construction of TALO’s offsite manufacturing solutions will allow faster construction of watertight structures to accelerate the construction programme. This helps housebuilders to achieve a faster return on investment and meet the demand for new housing.
Both houses in the Green Quarter will have brick cladding to complement neighbouring properties in the Bickley area of Bromley. Each will have contrasting white render and contemporary black window framing to add depth and visual interest.
Hipped and gabled roofs will achieve a modern aesthetic and demonstrate the design flexibility of the TALO superstructure system – which can be used to build luxury detached houses, semi-detached and terraced homes.
Each property will have front and rear gardens with planting, parking for two cars and cycle storage.
